Site configuration

Site details, status, currency, team members, integrations, and payouts.

These settings apply to the whole publication. Open your site in the portal to reach them.

Site details

Option Description
Title The publication name. Appears on the default wall and wherever readers browse your articles.
Site logo A URL to your logo, displayed beside the title on the wall.
Domain The domain articles must belong to. Article URLs outside it cannot be added.
Category Determines how the site is filed in reader discovery.
Promote Paperwall When enabled, readers who unlock an article see a one-time invitation to visit paperwall.io. Enabled by default.

Sites using the Ghost integration take the wall's name and logo from these settings rather than from the snippet.

Status

A site occupies one of four states.

  • VERIFYING — created, with the snippet not yet confirmed. Article management is unavailable until verification succeeds.
  • PREVIEW — verified. The wall runs for members of your Paperwall team only; other readers see your articles unchanged. Use this state to check the wall before making it public.
  • LIVE — the wall is active for all readers and payment is enabled. Publish moves a site here, and Unpublish returns it to PREVIEW.
  • RETIRED — archived. Unarchive returns it to PREVIEW.

Publishing is refused if the site has an integration configured but no credentials saved. A Ghost site without an admin key would take payment and return an empty article, so the combination is blocked.

Currency

Set per site: USD, CAD, or GBP. It determines the currency readers are quoted and charged in, and the currency your ticket prices convert from.

Ratings default

The site-level Use ratings setting determines the default for new articles. When ratings are enabled, readers who have paid can rate an article, and that score can be used as a pricing threshold. Individual articles can override the default.

Team members

Add people to a site under Members, with one of two roles.

  • Admin — full control, including settings, payouts, and membership.
  • Member — article management.

Members are also the audience for PREVIEW mode, and are the only readers who see the wall before the site is published.

Integrations

Holds the connection to a platform that requires one. Ghost is currently the only such platform. Paperwall validates credentials against your installation before saving, stores secrets encrypted, and does not display them again. See Ghost for the full procedure.

Payouts

Paperwall uses Stripe for payouts.

In the site editor, select Payouts → Continue with Stripe. Stripe's hosted onboarding opens in a new tab. Enter your details and a bank account or debit card, then return to the portal. The status refreshes when the tab regains focus.

Status Meaning
Not started Select Continue with Stripe to begin.
Pending Stripe is reviewing your submission.
Restricted Stripe requires more information. Select Continue setup.
Enabled Verified and ready. Use Manage on Stripe to change details later.

If the status appears out of date, select Refresh now in the Payouts panel.
